Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Friday (March 7, 2025) condemned members of the BJP for allegedly forcing schoolchildren to take part in the party’s signature campaign in favour of three-language formula, stipulated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and warned of strict action.
“Standing at the entrance of schools with placards and forcing students to take part in the signature campaign is highly condemnable. We are not going to restrict students if they voluntarily come forward to sign. But forcing them to sign in favour of the three-language policy at the entrance of schools amounts to threatening students,” Mr. Poyyamozhi told journalists in Tiruvallur.
He added that some parents and parent-teachers associations had raised concerns about this and that the School Education Department would take strict action if any complaints were received.
It is time to talk about advancements in science and take education to world-class standards by offering artificial intelligence and robotics courses to students, he said. He added that studying two languages were enough and reiterated Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s position that “if Tamil Nadu decides to implement NEP to get the education-related funds due from the Centre to the State to the tune of around ₹2,000 crore, it would be tantamount to taking the Tamil society backward by 2,000 years.”
