T.N. Tourism Minister unveils plans for new parks at Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams in Tiruppur

The Department of Tourism has submitted a proposal to the State government, after discussions with the Water Resources Department, to develop a 15-acre park at the Amaravathi Dam, said the Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran in Tiruppur on Sunday.

The park will come up at a cost of around ₹5.15 crore.

Speaking to the press after inspections in Tiruppur district, Mr. Rajendran said another park will come up at Thirumoorthy dam at a cost of ₹18.5 crore, for which approval from the State government is pending.

The Minister added that there are plans to enhance tourism infrastructure at the Ammanalingeswarar Temple and Panchalinga Falls at a cost of ₹39 lakh.

Earlier, Mr. Rajendran, along with the Minister for Tamil Development, Information, and Publicity, M.P. Saminathan, and the Minister for Human Resource Management, N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, inaugurated a Fire and Rescue Service Station in Madathukulam. They also visited the Amaravathi Cooperative Sugar Mill, where they discussed grievances with farmers and reviewed production and renovation efforts. Their inspection continued with a visit to the Amaravathi Dam crocodile farm, where they assessed the infrastructure needed to support tourism.

The Tourism Minister later visited Aliyar Dam and Kothavadi Lake in Coimbatore. During the visit, he announced plans to invest ₹10 crore in developing a boathouse, water sports facilities, and a park at Aliyar Dam. Additionally, the Department is exploring the possibility of replenishing Kothavadi Lake with surplus water to create a new tourist attraction.
