Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court on Monday extended the interim bail of N. Bhujanga Rao, accused in the phone-tapping case, till November 28 on medical grounds. Justice K. Sujana heard his petition seeking a regular bail on the case being tried by the Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad. He was accused in the phone tapping case due to his alleged offenses of unauthorised and illegal phone tapping of several politicians and others during the BRS regime.
Earlier, the sessions court at Nampally had dismissed Bhujanga Rao’s petition seeking an extension of interim bail and directed him to surrender before the Court on November 14. Challenging the same, Bhujanga Rao went to the High Court and requested an extension of his interim bail. He submitted the details of his health condition and doctor`s advice for post-surgery. Recently, he underwent heart surgery and treatment for kidney-related issues.
During the hearing on Monday, public prosecutor (PP) Palle Nageshwar Rao requested the Court not to extend the bail and not to grant the regular bail, as the prime accused Prabhakar Rao had to be taken into custody and petitioner Bhujanga Rao had played a key role based on the directions of the Prabhakar Rao.
The PP also informed the court that the Supreme Court is yet to hear the bail petition filed by Mekala Tirupatanna, another accused in the phone-tapping case, whose bail petition was dismissed by the High Court a few days ago. The PP sought adjournment of the regular bail petition filed by N. Bhujanga Rao to November 28, until the Supreme Court delivers its decision on the bail petition of Tirupatanna. Accordingly, Justice K. Sujana adjourned the bail petition to November 28 and extended his interim bail till that day.
Justice K. Sujana also adjourned the bail petition filed by P. Radha Kishan Rao, accused in the phone-tapping case to November 21 for further hearing.
