Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday sought an explanation from the state government regarding 110 students taking ill, reportedly due to food poisoning, at the Jyothiba Phule BC Welfare Gurukul School in Uyyalawada, Nagarkurnool district.

A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin was dealing with a PIL filed by Akhil Sriguru Teja challenging the non-implementation of the National Commission for Child Rights guidelines in the provision of accommodation in hostels and schools.

His counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar argued that proper accommodation facilities were not provided to students at Gurukul schools, and that nutritious food was not provided. He said that 110 students had to be shifted to the hospital after they fell ill at the Uyyalawada gurukul school after consuming contaminated food.

After hearing the arguments, the bench directed the government to give an explanation on the incident and adjourned the hearing to September 3.
