In a barb at Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday urged him to give up “dishonest and deceitful political behaviour” on this New Year’s Day.

“Stop taking false oaths on your children, and stop playing with the sentiments of Delhi’s women, elders, and religious communities by making false promises,” Mr. Sachdeva wrote in a letter to Mr. Kejriwal.

He asked him to apologise to Delhiites for “encouraging alcohol consumption” and “false assurances and corruption in the name of cleaning the Yamuna River”.

Mr. Sachdeva also asked Mr. Kejriwal not to “accept donations from anti-national forces for political gains.”

Joining the barrage, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that Mr. Kejriwal and the Delhi government have “failed to fulfil promises made to the people of Delhi”.

“Mr. Kejriwal had promised to bring down power tariffs, provide clean drinking water, improve the education system, enhance health care, ensure a clean environment, remove landfills, prioritise women’s safety, offer housing for slum dwellers, and clean the Yamuna,” he stated.

Responding to the BJP’s allegations, AAP in a statement said, “The BJP leaders don’t have the courage to question (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah over why Delhi’s law and order has collapsed in the last two years? Why are three to four women raped daily in Delhi? Why isn’t this a priority? Instead, they spend their mornings and evenings abusing Arvind Kejriwal.”
