Three people from Maharashtra died in an accident on the Sankeshwar-Vijayapura State Highway near Athani in Belagavi district on June 12 night. Three others were injured.

Police said a lorry rammed into a van that hit two cars.

Mahesh Subhash Gatade, 30, of Ganeshwadi village in Kolhapur district, Shivam Yuvaraj Chouhan, 24, of Fudawad village in Shirol taluk, Sachin Vilas Mali, 42, of Kavalapur village in Miraj taluk, died on the spot.

The injured were admitted to the community health centre in Athani.

Athani police are clearing the debris to facilitate movement of vehicles.

A case is being registered.
