The Tripura Police Friday arrested a person for his alleged involvement in the attack on a bus in Sepahijala district earlier this week.
The accused was identified as Sanjib Debbarma.
A mob had attacked the vehicle, leaving a police officer and three passengers injured after a woman complained that she had been molested by a co-passenger on the bus. The victim later filed a complaint at a police station in the Sepahijala district.
The state government imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) soon after the incident.
Chief Minister Manik Saha had criticised the mob violence. He had said, “We are all part of the society… Such incidents can happen at any time. What is required to be seen is whether any action is taken after the incident…”
Meanwhile, the police arrested a daily wage labourer, 40, from his residence at Bishalgarh on charges of sexually assaulting the woman passenger on Wednesday. He was produced in court on Thursday.
