NIZAMABAD: The state government on Thursday cleared the establishment of the University College of Engineering under the Telangana University, Nizamabad, with four BTech programmes set to begin from the academic year 2025-26.

The college will offer BTech courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and IT, and Data Science. Each programme will begin with an intake of 60 students.

Speaking to the media on the university campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. T. Yadagiri Rao announced that admissions for 240 seats in computer-related courses at the new engineering college will begin on August 5, as part of the third phase of Eapcet counselling. He said students enrolling this academic year will not face any difficulties.

Expressing happiness over the sanction of the College of Engineering, Prof. Yadagiri Rao, along with registrar Prof. M. Yadagiri, said that the university will provide quality technical education.

They extended their gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for approving the engineering college through GO No. 32. They also thanked all elected representatives from the undivided Nizamabad district and senior officials of the education department for their support in realising the long-standing dream of establishing the college.

He also acknowledged the contributions of individuals and student organisations. Special thanks were extended to government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir and MLAs R. Bhupathi Reddy, P. Sudarshan Reddy, K. Madanmohan Rao, and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy for their initiatives and support in making the project a reality.

Administrative sanction was accorded through a GO issued by the higher education department, following detailed proposals and correspondence from the university and the Telangana Council of Higher Education over the past year.

These specialisations reflect the current demand for data-driven and AI-enabled skills across industries, and the move is expected to strengthen the state’s efforts toward skilling youth in emerging technologies.

Officials said the decision to establish the college was taken after examining academic demand, infrastructure feasibility, and regional education access. While Telangana University runs a range of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in its Dichpally campus, this is the first time it will have an in-house engineering college.

Government sources said this initiative is part of efforts to decentralise professional education and enhance opportunities in backward regions like Nizamabad.

The GO directed the university to take necessary steps to implement the decision and begin admissions in time for the upcoming academic cycle. The intake cap of 60 per branch has been set to ensure a stable and quality-oriented rollout in the first phase.
