Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has captured Thiruvadanai, a constituency won 10 times by a traditional Congress family in the past.

A total of 21 candidates from the Congress, AIADMK, TVK, Naam Tamilar and All India Forward Bloc and independents were in the fray. TVK candidate Rajeev won the seat by securing 69,551 votes. Congress candidate R. M. Karumanickam got 67,038 votes, AIADMK’s Keerthika Muniyasamy 63,879, and Naam Tamilar candidate N. Premnath 13,389.
