The District and Sessions Court in Mayiladuthurai on Friday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the 2021 murder of a resident of Vaanagiri Tsunami Colony in Sirkazhi sub-division.

According to the police, M. Raj, 57, and T. Bhagyaraj, 33, both residents of the same locality, were found guilty of murdering Thoondikkaran, 51, son of Krishnasamy, following a quarrel over a gambling dispute on February 19, 2021.

Investigations revealed that the victim died after being pushed against a wall during the altercation. Based on a complaint lodged by victim’s wife Tamizhvaani, the Poombuhar police registered a case of murder. The then Inspector Nagarathinam led the investigation and arrested the accused, who were remanded in judicial custody.

The case was heard before the Mayiladuthurai District and Sessions Court, presided over by District and Sessions Judge L.S. Sathiyamurthy, found both accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Following the verdict, the convicts were lodged in the Cuddalore Central Prison.
