A WEEK after an “objectionable” video purportedly showing a local BJP leader with a young woman in a “compromising position” surfaced on social media, the BJP on Tuesday expelled the leader, Gauri Shankar Agrahari.
Agrahari was serving as the party’s district unit vice president in Siddharthnagar district.
Sources said the move came after the BJP’s Siddharthnagar district president wrote to the state leadership over the issue.
“Following a written complaint about your [alleged] behaviour, and after discussion with the Gorakhpur region president, you are being expelled from the party,” the BJP’s state general secretary, Govind Narayan Shukla, wrote in a letter to Agrahari.
Earlier, Agrahari denied the allegations, claiming that the video was “fake” and “aimed at tarnishing his reputation.” “This conspiracy has been hatched to malign my image. I will present my side before the leadership,” he said.
A senior BJP leader told The Indian Express on Tuesday, “The party has taken action. The onus is now on the police to further investigate the matter.”
