The Yamuna river continued to flow above the ‘warning mark’ in Delhi on Tuesday, as per the Central Water Commission (CWC) data.
The water level at the Old Railway Bridge in Delhi was 204.56 metres at 7 p.m., slightly above the ‘warning mark’ of 204.5 metres, which the river breached on Monday night.
The water level is expected to rise and breach the ‘danger mark’ of 205.33 metres on August 31, as per the CWC.
In the monsoon, the water level of the Yamuna in Delhi increases due to rain and the release of excess water from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana, which receives rainwater from the upstream areas.
Earlier this month, when the river breached the danger mark and flooded the low-lying areas, the authorities erected tents for the affected people.
As per the protocol, if Yamuna crosses the 206-metre mark, also called the ‘evacuation mark’, about 12,500 people are to be evacuated from the six districts close to the river.
