Assamese superstar Zubeen Garg has died, reportedly in a scuba diving accident, in Singapore, officials from a music festival he was there to attend confirmed to The Indian Express.

Garg was Assam’s most influential musical artist, who also found success in Bollywood with his powerful voice. He was in Singapore for the North East India Festival, organised by the High Commission of India, as a Cultural Brand Ambassador.

This development was confirmed to The Indian Express by festival organisers. “We have heard that he had gone for scuba diving and began experiencing breathing complications. The people from the Assam Association Singapore who were with him rushed him to a hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. He passed away there,” said a publicity official with the festival.
