تسببت الفيضانات والانهيارات الأرضية الناجمة عن أسابيع من الأمطار الغزيرة الاستثنائية في فيتنام بقتل 16 شخصاً على الأقل، وتواصل فرق الإنقاذ إجلاء السكان من عشرات آلاف المنازل الغارقة بالمياه، بحسب ما أعلنت السلطات الخميس.
وشهد جنوب فيتنام ووسطها هطول أمطار من دون توقف منذ آخر أكتوبر، ما تسبب بفيضانات عدّة أغرقت وجهات سياحية ومواقع أثرية.
وقالت وزارة البيئة إن 16 شخصاً على الأقل قضوا منذ آخر الأسبوع، وما زالت فرق الإنقاذ تبحث عن 5 مفقودين.
وأغرقت الأمطار نحو 43 ألف منزل وأدت انهيارات أرضية لقطع طرق أساسية.
وأظهرت صور وزعتها وكالة فرانس برس أحياء غارقة بكاملها في مدينة ناه ترانغ الساحلية.
وأرسلت وزارة الدفاع مروحيات لإجلاء العالقين في المناطق الجبلية، حيث وصل معدل الأمطار إلى 600 مليمتر منذ نهاية الأسبوع.
وعملت فرق الإنقاذ على التنقل بمراكب بين البيوت في مناطق من وسط البلاد، لفتح النوافذ أو ثقب الأسقف لإخراج العالقين.
ويقول العلماء إن الاحترار المناخي الناجم عن النشاط البشري يجعل الظواهر الطبيعية أكثر قسوة وأعلى وتيرة.
The floods and landslides caused by weeks of exceptional heavy rain in Vietnam have resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people, and rescue teams continue to evacuate residents from tens of thousands of homes submerged in water, authorities announced on Thursday.
Southern and central Vietnam have experienced continuous rainfall since late October, leading to several floods that have submerged tourist destinations and archaeological sites.
The Ministry of Environment reported that at least 16 people have died since the end of last week, and rescue teams are still searching for 5 missing individuals.
The rains have flooded around 43,000 homes and caused landslides that have blocked major roads.
Images distributed by Agence France-Presse showed entire neighborhoods submerged in the coastal city of Nha Trang.
The Ministry of Defense has sent helicopters to evacuate those stranded in mountainous areas, where rainfall has reached 600 millimeters since the weekend.
Rescue teams have been navigating boats between houses in parts of central Vietnam to open windows or puncture roofs to rescue those trapped.
Scientists say that climate warming caused by human activity makes natural phenomena more severe and more frequent.
