سجّلت لوحة فنية للرسامة المكسيكية فريدا كاهلو رقماً قياسياً جديداً، لتصبح أغلى عمل فني أنجزته امرأة يُباع في مزاد، بعدما حققت 54.66 مليون دولار في مزاد أقيم في نيويورك مساء الخميس.
العمل، الذي يحمل عنوان «الحلم (الغرفة)»، أنجزته كاهلو عام 1940 خلال مرحلة مفصلية من حياتها، تميزت بعلاقتها المتقلبة مع الفنان دييغو ريفيرا. ويُظهر البورتريه كاهلو وهي مستلقية على سرير يبدو وكأنه يطفو في السماء، فيما يعلوها هيكل عظمي ضخم تلف ساقيه أصابع ديناميت، في مشهد يدمج بين الرمزية المكسيكية والسريالية الأوروبية.
رئيسة قسم فن أمريكا اللاتينية في دار المزادات التي نظمت البيع، آنا دي ستاسي، أوضحت أن اللوحة «تمثل مشهداً داخلياً بالغ الخصوصية، وتعكس زخارف فولكلورية من الثقافة المكسيكية اختلطت بعناصر من السريالية، رغم أن كاهلو كانت ترفض تصنيف أعمالها ضمن هذا التيار».
وتفوقت هذه اللوحة على الرقم القياسي السابق المسجل باسم الرسامة الأمريكية جورجيا أوكيف، التي بيعت إحدى لوحاتها مقابل 44.4 مليون دولار عام 2014.
وتوفيت كاهلو عام 1954 عن عمر ناهز 47 عامًا، بعد حياة شاقّة عانت فيها من مشكلات صحية متراكمة، بدأت بإصابتها بشلل الأطفال في طفولتها، وانتهت بتداعيات حادث حافلة مروع تعرضت له عام 1925، شكّل منعطفاً في حياتها وأعمالها. واعتُبر الألم والموت محورين أساسيين في إنتاجها الفني.
ويعود الهيكل العظمي الظاهر في اللوحة إلى مجسّم مشابه كانت تحتفظ به كاهلو بجوار سريرها، مصنوع من الورق المعجن، مما يضيف بعداً شخصياً آخر للعمل الذي جذب اهتماماً واسعاً في الأوساط الفنية العالمية.
A painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo has set a new record, becoming the most expensive artwork created by a woman ever sold at auction, achieving $54.66 million at an auction held in New York on Thursday evening.
The work, titled “The Dream (The Bed),” was completed by Kahlo in 1940 during a pivotal time in her life, marked by her tumultuous relationship with artist Diego Rivera. The portrait depicts Kahlo lying on a bed that appears to float in the sky, while a massive skeleton looms above her, its legs wrapped in dynamite, in a scene that blends Mexican symbolism with European surrealism.
Anna Di Stasi, head of the Latin American art department at the auction house that organized the sale, explained that the painting “represents an intensely private interior scene, reflecting folkloric motifs from Mexican culture mixed with elements of surrealism, even though Kahlo rejected classifying her works within this movement.”
This painting surpassed the previous record held by American painter Georgia O’Keeffe, whose painting sold for $44.4 million in 2014.
Kahlo passed away in 1954 at the age of 47, after a challenging life marked by accumulated health issues, beginning with polio in her childhood and culminating in the aftermath of a horrific bus accident she suffered in 1925, which became a turning point in her life and work. Pain and death were considered central themes in her artistic production.
The skeleton depicted in the painting is based on a similar figure that Kahlo kept next to her bed, made of papier-mâché, adding another personal dimension to the work that has attracted widespread attention in global art circles.
