تشهد مناطق واسعة من كندا موجة حر شديدة مصحوبة بعواصف رعدية وتدهور في جودة الهواء، وسط توقّعات بتسجيل درجات حرارة قياسية.

ودعت السلطات سكان تورنتو إلى البقاء في منازلهم بعد تصدر المدينة قائمة الأسوأ عالميًا في جودة الهواء بسبب دخان حرائق الغابات، كما أصدرت إنذارًا برتقاليًا وحثت السكان على تجنب التعرض للشمس والإكثار من شرب المياه.

وتشمل التحذيرات عدة مقاطعات مع توقعات بارتفاع الحرارة المحسوسة إلى نحو 45 درجة مئوية، إضافة إلى احتمالية تشكل أعاصير في أجزاء من كيبيك ونيو برونزويك.

ويشير الخبراء إلى أن امتداد نظام ضغط جوي مرتفع من الولايات المتحدة إلى كندا أسهم في ارتفاع درجات الحرارة لتتجاوز مستوياتها المعتادة.

Large areas of Canada are experiencing a severe heatwave accompanied by thunderstorms and a deterioration in air quality, amid forecasts of record temperatures.

Authorities have urged residents of Toronto to stay indoors after the city topped the global list for the worst air quality due to smoke from wildfires. An orange alert has also been issued, urging residents to avoid sun exposure and to drink plenty of water.

The warnings cover several provinces, with expected heat indices rising to around 45 degrees Celsius, in addition to the possibility of tornadoes forming in parts of Quebec and New Brunswick.

Experts indicate that the extension of a high-pressure system from the United States into Canada has contributed to the rise in temperatures beyond their usual levels.
