Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), issued a strong condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting GCC member states, describing them as a “flagrant violation” of sovereignty, international laws, and norms, as well as a direct threat to regional and international security.
These remarks were made during a telephone conversation on Monday between the Secretary-General and the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica. The two officials reviewed the latest regional developments and the serious implications of the current escalation.
During the call, Albudaiwi underscored the necessity of an immediate cessation of all hostilities, emphasizing the importance of concerted international efforts to contain the escalation to ensure the region’s security and stability, and to safeguard international navigation and global energy supplies.
For her part, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean expressed her rejection of all Iranian hostile actions toward GCC countries, reaffirming the European Union’s full support for the security and stability of the Council’s member states.
