Mumbai: Ahead of what is expected to be India’s largest-ever IPO, Jio Platforms has outlined its roadmap for the next phase of growth. Speaking to journalists in Mumbai, Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms, identified Mobility, Home and Enterprise-International as the company’s three key growth engines.

The company believes that its technology capabilities, digital gateways and robust infrastructure will enable it to play a significant role in India’s nearly $1.4 trillion digital economy by FY31.

“Our most important unit of business is our customer,” Akash Ambani said, emphasising Jio’s commitment to delivering better and more affordable digital services to every Indian, every household and every enterprise. Jio currently serves approximately 533 million connectivity customers and carries more than 60% of India’s data traffic.

Mobility: Tapping the Next Wave of Digital Adoption

In the mobility segment, Jio sees a potential market of approximately 340 million additional 4G and 5G customers over the next five years. According to Akash Ambani, this opportunity comprises nearly 100 million first-time mobile subscribers and around 240 million customers transitioning from 2G to 4G and 5G services.

In FY26, Jio’s net additions of active mobile subscribers were nearly three times those of the next-largest operator, underlining its strong position in India’s mobile connectivity market.

Home Broadband: Scaling Towards 100 Million Households

Jio sees home broadband as a major growth opportunity in the coming years. From its current base of approximately 28.6 million fixed broadband subscribers, the company aims to expand its reach to 100 million households.

Jio accounted for approximately 67.5% of all new fixed broadband connections added in India during FY26. Akash Ambani said the company is expanding its reach through a combination of fibre and wireless technologies, with its services now extending across 19,000 PIN codes.

Enterprise and International: Taking Indian Technology Global

The third growth engine combines enterprise digital services with international expansion. Jio estimates the Indian enterprise digital services market at approximately ₹5.1 lakh crore, or $56.8 billion. Akash Ambani noted that nearly 65% of India’s bank branches are connected through Jio’s network.

Beyond the domestic market, Jio plans to monetise its end-to-end, in-house technology stack in select international markets. Rather than limiting its approach to software sales, the company intends to work with global telecom operators as a managed services partner.

Akash Ambani said this strategy could help India transition from being a technology importer to becoming a technology exporter.

Long-Term Vision and Financial Discipline

Earlier, Isha Ambani reflected on Jio’s origins and Reliance’s broader business philosophy, highlighting the importance of long-term thinking, scale, strong execution and financial discipline.

The press conference began with Uday Kotak recalling Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani and Reliance’s landmark 1977 IPO, connecting the company’s capital-market journey with the next chapter in its growth.

As Jio prepares for its proposed public-market debut, its strategy points to a broader ambition: building on its leadership in connectivity while expanding into home broadband, enterprise digital services and international technology partnerships.
