Melbourne: A video showing a woman carrying a small lamp and placing it at a T-intersection on Knowsley Avenue in Tarneit, Melbourne’s western suburbs, has sparked criticism.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday evening and was captured on CCTV. In the footage, the woman can be seen carrying the lamp before placing it in the middle of the road at the intersection. She was accompanied by a man during the incident.

A local resident, Gurjeet, who viewed the CCTV footage, reportedly shared it with local news outlet Wyndham TV, expressing concern over the incident. He speculated that the act could be connected to a ritual and raised concerns about the possibility of black magic.

The video has since drawn attention on social media, with several netizens criticising the act and expressing concern that such incidents could create negative perceptions about the Indian community.

However, the exact reason why the woman placed the lamp on the road remains unknown. There is currently no confirmed evidence to establish that the incident was related to black magic or any other mysterious ritual.

Residents have also raised concerns about placing objects in the middle of a road, as such acts could pose a safety risk to motorists and pedestrians.
