Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council witnessed heated exchange of words between the ruling and opposition sides for the second consecutive day here on Tuesday with the YSRC pressing for a discussion on the alleged anomalies in the mega DSC sports quota during the recent recruitment of teachers.

The council session began with the chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju announcing the rejection of an adjournment motion given by YSRC members for a discussion on the mega DSC sports quota. YSRC members trooped into the well while some holding placards climbed up the podium and some banged the podium rising slogans, saying that the chairman should allow a discussion.

The chairman said that once the adjournment notice was rejected, it could not be allowed again.

He advised the agitating members to raise the issue in a different format and that they rather decide in the business advisory committee meeting as to how to go about the issue.

The chairman started the Question Hour with education minister Nara Lokesh and others giving their replies for the queries raised by the members amid the din.

Leader of opposition Botsa Satyanarayana insisted on allowing a discussion on the mega DSC issue and said that while the chief minister made a statement on this issue in the assembly on Monday, it would be appropriate if the education minister made a statement on the issue in the council too.

Finance minister Payyavula Keshav raised objections to the disruptions being made by the opposition members like climbing up the podium and raising slogans with no respect to the chair.

He said, “Our government is ready to discuss the mega DSC issue. The chief minister had already made a statement in the assembly. You people remain firm only on one issue, while there are other important issues for discussion. The impact of El Niño, for one, and there is little concern about people facing shortage of water for drinking and the farmers for cultivation of crops.”

Satyanarayana countered the statement by saying that if this was the case, the assembly should have discussed the El Niño impact. Why was this not done so far, he asked.

Keshav faulted the previous YSR Congress government for its failure to conduct the DSC for teacher recruitment during its five-year tenure and said the party thus had no moral right to raise the issue now.

Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju repeatedly appealed to the members to stay calm and sought their cooperation to complete the question hour. With no order in sight, he adjourned the house.
