Fans waiting for the Telugu-dubbed version of Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 on OTT platforms may have to wait longer. The film has landed in legal trouble after the Madras High Court restrained its Telugu OTT release.
According to reports, filmmaker Sripriya’s production company, Rajkumar Theatre Pvt Ltd, filed a petition seeking to stop the release of the Telugu-dubbed version on streaming platforms. The Jeethu Joseph directorial was scheduled to premiere on OTT on Thursday.
Justice K. Kumaresh Babu passed the interim order. The court noted that despite receiving notice, none of the respondents appeared before it. In its order, the court restrained the respondents and all parties acting on their behalf from exploiting the applicant’s copyrights by releasing the Telugu-dubbed version on OTT platforms.
The dispute stems from the Telugu remake rights of the Drishyam franchise. The original Malayalam films were remade as Drushyam (2014) and Drushyam 2 (2021), both starring Venkatesh in the lead role. Sripriya, who directed the first Telugu remake, has claimed ownership of the Telugu rights. Sripriya and Rajkumar Sethupathi approached the court seeking to prevent the OTT release of the Telugu-dubbed version. Acting on their plea, the Madras High Court issued an interim injunction against its release.
While the original version of Drishyam 3 is officially available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from June 18, the Telugu-dubbed version remains on hold pending further legal proceedings.
