Berhampore: Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the police in Murshidabad of West Bengal for illegally entering India. Three Indians were also held along with them for providing the Bangladeshis shelter.
The eight were caught from two hideouts at Lalgola and Raninagar in the district along the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday night, additional SP Raspreet Singh said.
Five of them– Sahirul Islam, Mohammed Sirajul Islam, Samsul Sheikh, Sakil Sheikh and Sanjit Karmakar– are from Chapai Nawabganj district in Bangladesh. They had taken shelter for several days at the house of Jamirul Sheikh in Atrashia village in Lalgola.
Jamirul and his son, Tofajul, were also arrested by the police. Meanwhile, three more Bangladeshi nationals– Tarikul Islam, Abul Rahaman and Mohammad Saheb Ali– were arrested at Raninagar. They are from Godagari village at Rajsahi in Bangladesh.
They were caught from the house of Saddam Hussain at Old Digri village where they were staying in the guise of relatives. Saddam was also held. On Monday, the arrested 11 were remanded by the court in seven days’ police custody.
