Gopi, Nirmaben Are India’s Best At Hyderabad Marathon

Hyderabad: Ethiopians Emane Seifu and Seboka Negusse took the top honours in the women’s and men’s categories respectively at the 15th edition of Hyderabad Marathon on Sunday.

Emane won the Women’s Elite category in 2 hours, 46 minutes and 29 seconds and was followed to the finish line by compatriot Tsega Desta (2:46:57). Kenya’s Teresiah Omosa (2:47:17) was third.

In the Men’s Elite section, Seboka completed the race in 2:20:57 with Kenya’s Felix Kimutai too recording the same time to finish second. Francis Cheruiyot of Kenya was third with a time of 2:21:29.

Gopi Thonakal was the top Indian finisher, placing fourth in the men’s section in 2:21:46. He was followed by Man Singh (2:23:56) and Pradeep Singh (2:26:12) who took the fifth and sixth spots respectively.

On the women’s side, Nirmaben Thakor was India’s best (in sixth position) with 2:50:20. Bhagirathi Non (2:51:41) and Meenakshi Negi (3:08:43) followed Nirmaben to the finish line to take the seventh and eighth places.

Elite Women: 1. Emane Seifu (Ethiopia) 2:46:29, 2. Tsega Desta (Ethiopia) 2:46:57, 3. Teresiah Omosa (Kenya) 2:47:17.

Elite Men: 1. Seboka Negusse (Ethiopia) 2:20:57, 2. Felix Kimutai (Kenya) 2:20:57, 3. Francis Cheruiyot (Kenya) 2:21:29.

Elite Women (Indian): 1. Nirmaben Thakor 2:50:20, 2. Bhagirathi Non 2:51:41, 3. Meenakshi Negi 3:08:43.

Elite Men (Indian): 1. Gopi Thonakal 2:21:46, 2. Man Singh 2:23:56, 3. Pradeep Singh 2:26:12.
