Haveri: A clash between two groups during Karahunnime celebrations left several people injured in Naregal village of Hanagal taluk in Haveri district on Monday.
According to preliminary information, about seven sustained injuries. It is said that the violence broke out when a group of youths was taking decorated calves through the village as part of the Karahunnime celebrations. During the procession, an argument allegedly broke out between two groups over the movement of the cattle. The verbal exchange soon escalated.
It is said that members of both communities assaulted each other during the confrontation. Police said the circumstances leading to the violence are being investigated. Police forces were deployed to ensure peace.
While some of the people who were seriously injured were shifted to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI), others are undergoing treatment at the Haveri District Hospital.
“The clash broke out while people were taking calves decorated with colours as part of the Karahunnime celebrations. A case is being registered in connection with the incident,” Haveri Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi said. She reviewed the situation and directed the officials to take necessary measures.
