Hyderabad: Young sailors from the Secunderabad Sailing Club (SSC) delivered a standout performance at the Yachting Association of India (YAI) Youth & Multi Class Championship, a Junior National Ranking Regatta held at the Krishna Raja Sagara reservoir in Mandya, Mysuru, recently.

The Club returned with five medals — three of them gold, from two single-handed classes and one doubles class.

The regatta was contested on the clean waters of Krishna Raja Sagara, a vital source of drinking water and irrigation for the Kaveri basin, and one of the cleanest sailing venues in the country.

SSC sailors Krithika Vishwanathan and Shringari Roy won gold in the ILCA 4 and Optimist Main fleets, while Diya Patel and Ishi Gupta won the 420. Srishti Singh made it a Secunderabad one-two on the Optimist podium with silver. Kovidh Kiran claimed a bronze medal in the Green Fleet.

Coaching, Leadership and a Bigger Vision

The results reflect a disciplined training programme led by Arjun Pradipak, Coach and Commodore of the Secunderabad Sailing Club, who has guided this group across the Optimist, ILCA and 420 fleets.

“Four medals in the girls’ fleets, including three golds, show what these sailors are capable of,” said Pradipak.

“My dream is to build a sailing academy in clean waters like the Krishna Raja Sagara, where sailors can train in a safe environment. An academy that spots talent early and gives it a genuine pathway to the Asian Games and the Olympics, while helping our young sailors keep up with their academics, so no one has to choose between a competitive career and their education” he added.
