New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is currently investigating sexual harassment allegations against a professor, filed by around eleven students.
The complaints allege inappropriate conduct, sexually suggestive remarks, and offers of higher marks in exchange for sexual favours during vivas. Students also allege they were invited to gatherings at the professor’s campus residence, where further advances were allegedly made, along with lewd comments during regular classes.
The matter surfaced after one student shared her account in a students-only WhatsApp group, prompting others to come forward. Following a roughly 45-day semester break, the issue resurfaced in July when classes resumed, drawing more complaints, including from senior students.
The ICC has begun recording statements, and reports suggest that the JNU administration will pursue an FIR with the Delhi police if the ICC inquiry finds substance to the allegations.
No official statement has been issued by the university so far.
As per reports, the JNU Executive Council dismissed four employees in separate cases, including a senior faculty member accused of sexual harassment.
