Improper roads
In view of the directions issued by the High Court on July 20, a new road is not laid just above the old one, but the existing one is scrapped before laying the new road so that the existing road level is maintained.
At present, the 80-feet road of Anna Nagar near Melamadai junction and the road adjoining the Corporation park in Shenbagathoppu leading to Marudhupandiar Street (Tahsildar Nagar) are in a deplorable condition, causing inconvenience to vehicle users.
The Corporation should relay them immediately. There has been a tremendous increase in the movement of vehicles on Marudhupandiar Street and Nellai Street owing to the construction of an overbridge on Sivaganga Road.
‘No entry’ is seldom respected, with the result that there is a traffic snarl every day during peak hours, especially on Nellai Street near the junction where it meets Vandiyur main road.
Therefore, there is an urgent need to post a traffic constable at this junction to regulate the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and to prevent accidents.

Damaged parapet wall
The Viraganoor dam, also known as the Vaigai reservoir or regulator, is a small dam on the Vaigai river in Madurai. It was constructed in 1975. It’s located approximately 10 km from Madurai, situated between Madurai and Sivaganga on the Rameswaram National Highway.
The dam is primarily used for irrigation purposes and is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department (PWD). Now, the condition is pathetic that the parapet wall has been damaged and the road on the dam, which connects many villages also damaged. I request the PWD to take up repair works as early as possible.

Stray dog menace
Stray dog menace continues to be a major issue in Madurai. It remains high in all the wards. On an average, 10 dogs are seen in every street. Children are highly prone to these stray dog threats. Major issues in controlling these stray dogs are fewer reports of cases and a lack of public concern.
I request the Corporation and Department of Animal Husbandry to take a series of measures in controlling this menace via the animal birth control programme as soon as possible.

Poor facilities at teppakulam
A large number of people visit Mariamman Teppakulam in the evening for relaxation and to get fresh air. In the absence of seating arrangements, elderly women and children sit on the parapet wall around the tank with much discomfort.
As there are no restrooms in the vicinity, many use the roadside to relieve themselves, leading to a stench in the air. There are many eateries and other shops around the tank.
People who buy food items there throw the leftovers and plastic items on the road or into the tank. As the number of garbage bins are inadequate, the entire area is unclean, and the tank has become polluted.
Devotees who visit the Muktheeswarar Temple are facing a lot of inconvenience and hardships. A lot of saplings should be planted around the tank for fresh air circulation. I request the authorities concerned to take steps at the earliest.
