Major portion of financial resources goes towards salary, pension, loan repayment, says Puducherry Chief Minister

Of the ₹14,300-crore outlay fixed for the current financial year, an amount of ₹2,693.40 crore has been allocated for salaries, ₹2,327.86 crore for purchase of power, ₹1,619.73 crore for pension, ₹1,981.57 crore for repayment of loan and interest, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said in the Assembly.

Presenting the Budget, the Chief Minister said a major portion of the Union Territory’s financial resources goes towards committed expenditure, including salaries, pension, repayment of loan and interest. A sum of ₹2,202.45 crore has been allocated for implementation of various welfare schemes, such as free rice, productive incentive/subsidy for farmers, pension for elderly, fishermen and differently abled, financial assistance to women heads of families, subsidy for LPG cylinders and distribution of free laptops.

Provision has also been made in the Budget for providing grant-in aid to the tune of ₹560 crore to society-run higher education institutions and ₹1,082 crore for public sector undertakings and cooperative institutions, the Chief Minister said.
