The monsoon is active in Gujarat with “exceptional heavy rainfall” in Junagadh, where a few areas witnessed severe waterlogging, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today, advising fishermen not to venture into the sea till July 8.

The weather office has forecast more showers in several districts in the State tomorrow.

“Monsoon was active over the Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch. Exceptional heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in the districts of the Saurashtra-Kutch region, namely Junagadh district, in the past 24 hours,” the IMD said in its midday forecast.

Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into some more parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat, it said.

“Heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy falls is very likely in the districts of South Gujarat region, namely Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli; in the districts of Saurashtra, namely Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and in Diu from 8.30 am on Sunday,” the bulletin said.
