Amaravati: Nearly 15,000 electricity poles, along with conductors and distribution transformers, were damaged across several districts of Andhra Pradesh due to Cyclone Arnab, State Energy Minister said on Friday.
In West Godavari district, around 60 per cent of the restoration work had been completed by Thursday night. The remaining work was expected to be completed by Friday night, while full restoration across the affected areas was targeted by Saturday evening, the minister said.
The government had moved around 15,000 to 20,000 poles, distribution transformers and conductors to locations near affected areas before the cyclone, enabling quicker restoration, he said.
The minister added that the state had sought manpower and materials from neighbouring states, including Telangana and Tamil Nadu, to speed up the work.
He said power supply had been shut down in some areas as a precaution to prevent accidents, while strong winds had damaged poles and snapped conductors in several places. Senior officials and engineers had been deployed across the affected districts to oversee restoration efforts.
