Seven persons were injured after a maxi cab overturned on the Manapparai-Thuvarankurichi road at Meyyampatti diversion in the district on Monday.  A group of 14 persons of Pollachi were travelling in the maxi cab from Veerapur to Madurai when the vehicle overturned while negotiating a curve. The injured were treated as out-patients at the hospital.

The accident triggered road blockade by a section of residents of nearby villagers, complaining over the repeated accidents along the stretch. The protesting villagers demanded necessary road safety measures to be put in place to check accidents. 

Police sources said the protest lasted nearly 90 minutes warranting the intervention of police and revenue officials. The villagers dispersed later.
