Actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani never fails to make headlines for her professional news. The actress recently opened up about her mother’s hardships and how she was made to leave the house when she couldn’t have a boy. Smriti also recently spoke at length about pay parity as well. While talking to Karan Johar for Mojo Story, the actress opened up about her childhood, her journey on the professional front, and much more. When asked about the song that represents her life the best, she responded that it would be “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Agneepath.”Explaining the shift, she added, “I am avenging possibly every kid who never had an opportunity to equally compete. Agneepath, the original version, was about a son who was trying to fulfil his mother’s desire.” She further shared, “The gore and glory was all about how the son thought that his mother had faced injustice, and I always felt that for my own mother. My mother was made to leave home when I was 7 because she could not have a son. So for me, that was my Agneepath — to get my mother back and give a roof over her head.”Speaking to Karan Johar, she also spoke about pay parity in the television industry. She shared, “I was not paid more than the male protagonist when I had signed the contract. I created that space in collaboration with the creator of the show. I remember when we did that particular engagement contract, Ekta Kapoor was very focused on the history we were about to create. Everybody else was bothered about the paycheque. She has always been focused on what threshold she can cross or what new standard she can set.”Smriti Irani-starrer Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set to return with Season 2. Fans are quite excited for the new season to air.
