Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates, Thursday, Sept 24, 2026: At pre-open, the Nifty50 and the Sensex fell, as most global markets logged losses following a surge in global bond yields amid fears of further US rate hikes. 

Asia-Pacific markets were trading on a mixed note on Thursday morning as they look forward to US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping’s first meeting in 11 years. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.47 per cent and 0.9 per cent, respectively. 

China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.73 per cent and 0.68 per cent, respectively. 

Overnight, the benchmark yield on the US 10-year Treasury Note surged 15 basis points to 5.11 per cent, marking the biggest single-day jump since Trump’s tariff announcement in 2025, according to Bloomberg. Robust economic data and hawkish remarks from US Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr led to increased bets on further monetary tightening in the near-term. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.68 per cent and 0.75 per cent lower, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite closed 1.13 per cent lower. 

Brent crude prices were trading well above $100-per-barrel market in Asian trade hours despite reversing some gains from the previous session. The September futures were quoted at $102.57, down 0.82 per cent on the Intercontinental Exchange. 

Gold futures were flat while silver futures fell 0.79 per cent as US Treasury yields rose on increased expectation of the start of a rate-hike cycle.
