The District Educational Office in Gobichettipalayam has issued a memo to a teacher at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Malliamman Durgham, located in the Kadambur Hills, for absenting from duty without informing the authorities.

Currently, the school, which has only one student, is staffed by one regular teacher and another appointed on a temporary basis.

Due to lack of motorable roads, electricity, and stable income sources, most families in the hamlet have migrated to the plains. At the start of the 2025–26 academic year, with no teacher available, a temporary teacher was appointed. A regular teacher was posted through general counselling 12 days ago.

As commuting daily through the rugged nine-kilometre terrain from Kadambur to the hamlet was impractical, the teacher was expected to stay on the school premises. However, the newly-appointed regular teacher failed to attend school on July 18 and 21 without applying for leave or informing the authorities.

On Monday (July 21, 2025), officials from the District Educational Office conducted an inquiry and confirmed the teacher’s absence. Following the inquiry, a memo was issued to the teacher, seeking an explanation. A senior official said that further action would be taken based on his response. The official added that a team from the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) would visit the hamlet and the school on Thursday (July 24, 2025).
