Tirupati: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Monday announced plans to establish a central administrative building in Tirumala at a cost of Rs 85 crore to bring major administrative departments under one roof.

The facility would form the administrative hub of the temple body and house the office of the additional executive officer along with 23 departments, including engineering, revenue, estate, vigilance and security, healthcare, transport, temple administration, information technology, accounts, audit and public relations.

A 5,495-sq-m site on the northern side of the B-type quarters in Tirumala has been identified for the purpose. Earlier, an assessment found the previously proposed site at the old Annapurna Canteen inadequate.

The proposed structure will comprise a cellar floor, a stilt floor for parking and four upper floors of office space, with a total built-up area of nearly 1.91 lakh square feet.

“Although the TTD Board approved the Annapurna Canteen site in July 2025, the 1,412-square metre plot was later found insufficient for long-term requirements. The larger site near the B-type quarters, presently used for pilgrim vehicle parking, was subsequently identified as a more suitable location due to its connectivity to the temple, Vaikuntam queue complexes and outer ring roads,” TTD has stated.

With the hill town expanding over the years, administrative offices had been established at different places, making inter-departmental coordination more difficult. “A central facility would improve communication and coordination among various departments. Bringing all offices under one roof will facilitate quicker decision-making, faster resolution of operational issues and better planning during festivals and periods of heavy pilgrim rush,” TTD stated.

The temple body manages services including darshan, accommodation, queue management, Annaprasadam distribution, sanitation, drinking water supply, healthcare, security and transport for an average daily footfall of 60,000 to 80,000 pilgrims.
