V.O. Chidambaranar (V.O.C.) Port has handled 2,188 wind turbine blades between April and August of the current financial year, registering year-on-year growth of 74.5% compared with 1,254 blades during the corresponding period of the financial year 2025-2026.

The number of vessels carrying wind turbine blade consignments also increased from 39 to 52 during the same period.

The latest performance builds on a sustained increase in wind energy cargo handled at the Port. V.O.C. Port handled 2,030 wind turbine blades in FY 2023-2024, 2,635 blades in FY 2024-2025 and a record 4,922 blades in FY 2025-2026. The FY 2025-2026 volume represented an increase of 86.8% over the previous financial year.

The port has demonstrated its capability to handle wind turbine blades measuring up to 90.2 metres in length. Its operational ecosystem is supported by harbour mobile cranes, experienced manpower trained in handling over-dimensional cargo and efficient road connectivity between the port and its hinterland.

Speaking on this, the chairperson of V.O.C. Port Authority Susanta Kumar Purohit said, “The transition towards clean energy is creating a new class of logistics requirements for Indian ports. Renewable energy projects increasingly depend upon the efficient movement of large and specialised components and ports will have an important role in enabling this supply chain.”

He added that V.O.C. Port was steadily building the infrastructure, handling capacity and connectivity required to serve this growing sector.

“The sustained growth in wind turbine blade handling demonstrates both market confidence and our operational capability,” Mr. Purohit said.
