ARIYALUR: The district fast track mahila court has awarded life sentence to a youth who cheated a class 10 girl by giving false promise that he would marry her and attempted to illegally terminate her pregnancy.
Public prosecutor Bhaskar said the girl hailed from the Jayankondam area had developed intimacy with Vilvendran, a graduate from the same area. He allegedly had sexual relations with her on multiple occasions under the pretext of marriage. When she informed him that she was pregnant, Vilvendran refused to marry her and also asked her to terminate her pregnancy.
Following this, the girl’s father preferred a complaint with the all women police station at Jayankondam. The police arrested him and filed a case against him before the district mahila court.
Judge Manimekalai awarded life sentence to Vilvendran, besides slapping a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him.
