Fifteen teams contested the third annual edition at The Cage @ Carlisle, bringing a competitive sporting edge to NBKL’s Sports Spectra 2026.
SINGAPORE, October 18: Media5 Orchid claimed the men’s title and Kairalee Singapennu secured the women’s crown at NBKL’s Sports Spectra Cage Cricket Tournament 2026, which brought together 15 teams at The Cage @ Carlisle on Sunday.
Kairalee Tuskers finished runners-up in the men’s competition, while NBKL Merlion Strikers took second place in the women’s event. The results gave Kairalee a rewarding outing, with its teams securing a place in both title contests and returning with the women’s championship.
Now in its third annual edition, the tournament featured 12 men’s teams and three women’s teams. A programme spread across three pitches provided the framework for a day of cricket, with the men’s competition progressing from the group stage to the knockout rounds and the women’s league leading to a separate final.
Media5 Orchid emerged from a field that brought together community associations, clubs and independently constituted teams. Drawn in Group C alongside United Friends Kala, Noah Marine and Sree Narayana Mission, the eventual champions finished the tournament with the principal men’s honour.
Runners-up Kairalee Tuskers began their campaign in Group B, which also included SMA Super Kings, Micron and OPC Eight Mates. Group A comprised Monsoon Stormers, NovaDrishya Mavericks, NBKL Titans and NBKL Warriors.
The breadth of the field remains a significant feature of the competition, giving teams from different parts of Singapore’s community sporting network an opportunity to compete in a common tournament.
In the women’s section, Kairalee Singapennu took the honours ahead of hosts’ side NBKL Merlion Strikers, with SMA Spinners completing the three-team line-up. A dedicated league and final gave the women’s competition a clear place in the day’s programme, with a championship to contest in its own right.
Singapennu’s success, alongside the Tuskers’ runner-up finish, made Kairalee one of the prominent names on the tournament’s honours list. For NBKL, the Merlion Strikers’ appearance in the women’s final added a home-team interest to the concluding stages.
The tournament formed part of the wider Sports Spectra programme organised by Naval Base Kerala Library. The cage cricket organising committee was chaired by Mahesh Menon, while Bimal chaired Sports Spectra. NBKL president Sudheer and Pankaj, in a supporting role, were also involved in the effort behind the event.
With 15 teams and three playing areas to accommodate, the organising task extended from coordinating fixtures to providing for players and visitors through a lengthy programme. Free admission and food facilities gave the tournament a family-friendly setting alongside its competitive purpose.
The third edition concluded with Media5 Orchid and Kairalee Singapennu at the top of their respective competitions. Their titles supplied the day’s sporting distinction; the participation across clubs and associations underlined the tournament’s place in Singapore’s community cricket calendar.
