The Polish Interior Minister announced today (Sunday) the arrest of the man who planned an attack on Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, just hours after he and Defense Minister Włodzimierz Czarzasty were subjected to an assassination attempt.
Spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry Karolina Galińska stated via the platform “X”: The ministry has issued directives to the authorities to take action following information received by the police regarding a potential assassination attempt on the Prime Minister as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, who also holds the defense portfolio, noting that representatives from the police, the Internal Security Agency, and the State Protection Service participated in the meeting held today.
For his part, the spokesman for the Minister of Coordination of Special Security Services in Poland, Jacek Dąbrowski, told reporters after the meeting: We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.
He added, “Month after month, and year after year, the police, the State Protection Service, and security agencies are receiving more threats and messages that involve various threats targeting Poland and the Polish people,” indicating that in this case, there is a significant likelihood that these threats could indeed be carried out.
Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, is in a state of heightened alert following a series of stabbing attacks that occurred last week, which Tusk condemned, considering them part of a “culture of violence.”
