As discussions intensify about the possibility of renewed American-Iranian confrontation, and the hypothesis of Israel’s involvement in it, Lebanon returns to the forefront of regional calculations with one central question: Will Hezbollah open a third front of support, or have the previous two experiences set boundaries that are difficult to surpass this time?

The information circulating in Beirut does not provide a definitive answer. The party maintains a strict silence regarding its stance, while reports speak of military and relief preparations for various scenarios. However, readiness does not necessarily mean a decision for war, especially since the circumstances surrounding previous support rounds have changed significantly.

The party today faces a different military and political reality. Its presence in the south is no longer what it used to be, and the balance of power with Israel has become more imbalanced, while its environment appears less capable of bearing a new war and the potential displacement and human and material losses that could ensue. Additionally, the margin for internal movement has shrunk, as any military action outside the state’s decision has become a subject of clearer political and institutional confrontation.

In this context, information circulated in recent hours about the party informing Speaker of the House Nabih Berri that it does not wish to initiate involvement in a new war in support of Iran or to breach the ceasefire, while retaining the option to respond if its positions come under attack. However, the experience of previous confrontations makes reliance on such commitments insufficient, especially after a parliamentary source in Hezbollah avoided answering a question about this commitment, merely stating that “the field has the final word.”

For its part, Iran, which would be the targeted party in any new war, has also sent signals that do not currently push towards activating the Lebanese front. Reports indicate that Iranian officials have informed Lebanese parties that Tehran does not need Hezbollah’s intervention to support it.

In this context, a Lebanese political source told “Okaz” that “all these calculations remain contingent on the nature of the war itself. If the confrontation is limited to Iran and the United States, it may be possible to neutralize the party. However, if Israel enters the war and expands its operations to Lebanon or directly targets Hezbollah, the margin for remaining outside it will quickly diminish.” He recalled the attempts to neutralize Lebanon in previous instances, which ended with the party entering the war.
