U.S. President Donald Trump kept the options open for dealing with Iran, between completing what he described as the “mission” and reaching an agreement with Tehran, coinciding with his remarks about discussions he had with billionaire Elon Musk regarding the satellite internet service “Starlink” in Ukraine.
Trump stated during a campaign rally on Saturday evening that the United States may have to complete the mission in Iran, but he did not rule out reaching an agreement, without revealing the nature of the upcoming steps or the conditions that could pave the way for a settlement with the Iranian side.
Discussions with Musk about “Starlink” in Ukraine
In a development related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, Trump revealed that he had discussions with Elon Musk regarding the satellite internet service “Starlink” in Ukraine, but he did not provide details about the content of the discussions or whether they resulted in new understandings.
The service is significant for Ukraine due to the reliance of civilian and military sectors on satellite communications, while the issue of continued access to it remains one of the files linked to communication capabilities during the war.
Kyiv had previously expressed concerns about any potential restrictions that might affect its access to satellite communication services.
Trump links deals with Moscow to ending the war
Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, Trump confirmed that his administration seeks to end the war before making any deals with Moscow, in a position that ties potential understandings with Russia to progress towards halting the fighting.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his country’s readiness to end the war as soon as possible, according to an interview with the American network “ABC,” during which he noted that Russia controls about 19% of Ukrainian territory.
Despite the efforts to end the war, disagreements over the terms of a settlement remain between Moscow and Kyiv, with no timeline set for reaching a final agreement.
Trump’s statements reflect the ongoing discussion of negotiation paths in both the Iranian and Ukrainian files, while keeping other options open amid the complexities of negotiations and the differing positions of the involved parties.
