في خطوة ثورية تقربنا من السفر عبر القارات في نصف الوقت، أعلنت وكالة «ناسا» نجاح طائرتها الأبحاث التجريبية (X-59) في اختراق حاجز الصوت للمرة الأولى، محققة سرعة 1.1 ماخ على ارتفاع 43,400 قدم في رحلة استغرقت 81 دقيقة فوق صحراء كاليفورنيا.
الطائرة المطورة ضمن مشروع «Quesst» لا تشبه أي طائرة أخرى؛ حيث صُممت بمقدمة مدببة وطويلة جداً لتشتيت الموجات الصوتية الانفجارية وتحويلها إلى مجرد «نقرة ناعمة» لا تُسمع على الأرض. هذا التصميم الفريد ألغى تماماً زجاج قمرة القيادة الأمامي، ليقود الطيار المركبة اعتماداً على نظام (XVS) الرقمي الذي ينقل بثاً حياً بدقة فائقة للأجواء المحيطة.
وتتطلع «ناسا» حالياً لرفع السرعة إلى 1.4 ماخ والتحليق فوق مجتمعات سكنية حقيقية لتقييم الأثر، والهدف النهائي هو تقديم هذه البيانات الذهبية للمشرعين الدوليين لإلغاء حظر الطيران فوق اليابسة، وولادة جيل جديد من الطيران التجاري السريع.
In a revolutionary step that brings us closer to traveling across continents in half the time, NASA has announced the success of its experimental research aircraft (X-59) in breaking the sound barrier for the first time, achieving a speed of 1.1 Mach at an altitude of 43,400 feet during an 81-minute flight over the California desert.
The aircraft, developed under the “Quesst” project, is unlike any other; it features a very long, pointed nose designed to disperse shock waves and convert them into merely a “soft click” that cannot be heard on the ground. This unique design completely eliminated the front cockpit glass, allowing the pilot to operate the vehicle relying on the digital (XVS) system that transmits a live broadcast with ultra-high precision of the surrounding atmosphere.
NASA is currently looking to increase the speed to 1.4 Mach and fly over real residential communities to assess the impact, with the ultimate goal of providing this golden data to international lawmakers to lift the ban on flying over land, leading to the birth of a new generation of fast commercial aviation.
