It is not easy for a poet to transcend the sensitivity of the situation and the circumstances that his poem’s spatial and temporal dimensions undergo, especially when addressing a matter related to war; for few escape the traps of hatred while seeking to replace the sound of explosions with the rhythm of melodies.
In his poem that has topped the trends since yesterday, the poet colleague Abdullah bin Abiyan succeeded in reviving the historical spirit of Yemeni-Saudi relations, deeply rooted in the consciousness and memory of the people of the Arabian Peninsula, opening the text with a brotherhood between the Yemeni and the Saudi: “The banners are fluttering and the troops are following, and the chants are Saudi and my voice is Yemeni.” The entrenched issue in the feeling is represented in this exemplary brotherhood to the point of the absence of differences and divisions, with the troops merging and the banners uniting.
With a national sentiment, the essence of the poem strengthens from its beginning; the Saudi dreams of the one who has strayed, hoping he returns to his senses if he has any sense; or refrains from his folly; yet he does not weaken or relent: “Teach those who bombed Mecca that the weak are the ones who falter, Salman’s sword does not hesitate to cut through the chaos.” The reference speaks for itself, and the condensation of meaning summarizes the word; like a sword drawn from its sheath, it acts decisively.
Our poet manifests himself in his poetic speech or rhetorical poetry, as if he is overseeing us from the edge of words, as if he sees with his own eyes what the legitimacy and the coalition achieve as a result of the request from the Yemeni brothers for their brother and neighbor to stand with them; inspired by the custom of (dakhala), represented in throwing the ghutrah (headscarf) into the hands of the one he seeks help from, who responds with his words: “You will be blessed with good fortune, and on my forehead is the matter of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with the Yemeni leadership,” saying, “Follow the war, you who know nothing of war, whoever removes his ghutrah will be blessed in seconds, Mohammed the noble’s stand for glory is a mark, nothing shakes the mountains except the noble ones.”
Since pride is the salt of poetry, (bin Abiyan) soars with his text again to match the fluttering banners of letters: “The fervor has power, roots, and springs, O falcons of victory, crush the fortresses of the enemies, let the coward walk over the tips of fingers, under the peak of Mount Maran he will suffer, in the caves of the mountains, humiliation is submissive and lurking, Arabism is not honored by those who are of Isfahan.”
The work, which blends the voices of distinguished Yemeni singers Salah Al-Hatari and Abu Manaji Al-Bahluli with the poetic essence of Abdullah Abiyan, returns the text to what it began with; in pride for the Yemeni brotherly neighbor; carrying tidings of good; with assured victory; emphasizing that the Yemeni is Saudi and the Saudi is Yemeni, in times of peace and in facing the enemies of both countries and peoples: “Yemen, its people are narrators of honor and satisfaction, O Aden, bring good news to Sana’a and convey the congratulations; victory has men who do not fear tempests, they confront death in hardships, and life is fleeting, from Tuwaiq to ‘Saba’, O lively ones of those pastures, the Yemeni is Saudi and the Saudi is Yemeni.”
