لم يكن الطفل أحمد (15 عاماً) يعلم أن خطوته الأولى نحو حلمه بمساعدة أسرته وتدبير نفقات دراسته، ستكون هي الخطوة الأخيرة في حياته. ففي فاجعة إنسانية بمحافظة البحيرة (شمالي مصر)، تحولت رحلة كفاح الصبي إلى مأساة مروعة بعدما التهمت النيران جسده النحيل في الساعة الأولى والوحيدة له داخل عمله الجديد.
وقال زميله محمد هلال إن أحمد كان يمثل نموذجاً مدهشاً لجيل يرفض الاستسلام، إذ كان يجوب الشوارع على دراجته الهوائية البسيطة ليوصل الطلبات مقابل أجر زهيد لا يتعدى 15 جنيهاً للرحلة الواحدة.
وفور علمه بافتتاح مطعم جديد في منطقته، هرع الصبي إليه مع تباشير المساء، طامعاً في زيادة دخله لتخفيف الأعباء المعيشية عن كاهل والديه، دون أن يدري أنه يسير نحو مصيدته.
وعندما فتح المطعم الجديد أبوابه في تمام الساعة الـ6:00 مساءً وسط أجواء احتفالية، لم تدم الفرحة لأكثر من نصف ساعة فقط، إذ وقع الانفجار المباغت عندما دوّت صرخة رعب داخل المنشأة إثر انفجار عنيف لأسطوانة غاز.
واندلع حريق هائل غطى المخارج في ثوانٍ معدودة، واجتاحت ألسنة اللهب المكان بالكامل.
وفي محاولة غريزية للنجاة، ركض أحمد نحو الأعلى واختبأ داخل غرفة علوية بالمطعم، لكن الدخان الكثيف والنيران طارداه سريعاً في حصار محكم، مما أسفر عن وفاته خنقاً وحرقاً في الحال قبل أن يوصل طلباً واحداً.
وقال جيرانه: «كان يوفق بين عمله الشاق وتفوقه الدراسي، والأهم من ذلك كله أنه كان حافظاً لكتاب الله كاملاً وعالياً في أخلاقه». وتحولت منصات التواصل الاجتماعي في مصر إلى سرادق عزاء مفتوح، وسط حالة من الذهول والتعاطف الشديد مع عائلة الصبي المكافح الذي دفع حياته ثمنًا لشهامته المبكرة، ليترك خلفه دراجته الهوائية وحزناً لا ينطفئ في قلوب الجميع.
15-year-old Ahmed did not know that his first step towards his dream of helping his family and managing his study expenses would be the last step of his life. In a human tragedy in the Beheira Governorate (northern Egypt), the boy’s struggle turned into a horrific tragedy after flames engulfed his slender body during his first and only hour at his new job.
His colleague Mohamed Hilal said that Ahmed was an amazing example of a generation that refuses to give up, as he rode through the streets on his simple bicycle to deliver orders for a meager wage of no more than 15 Egyptian pounds per trip.
As soon as he learned about the opening of a new restaurant in his area, the boy rushed there with the early signs of evening, hoping to increase his income to ease the financial burdens on his parents, unaware that he was walking into a trap.
When the new restaurant opened its doors at exactly 6:00 PM amid a festive atmosphere, the joy lasted for no more than half an hour, as a sudden explosion occurred when a scream of terror echoed inside the establishment due to a violent explosion of a gas cylinder.
A massive fire broke out, covering the exits in a matter of seconds, and flames engulfed the entire place.
In an instinctive attempt to survive, Ahmed ran upstairs and hid inside an upper room of the restaurant, but the thick smoke and flames quickly pursued him in a tight siege, resulting in his death by suffocation and burning before he could deliver a single order.
His neighbors said: “He balanced his hard work with his academic excellence, and most importantly, he was a complete memorizer of the Quran and had high morals.” Social media platforms in Egypt turned into an open mourning tent, amid a state of shock and deep sympathy for the family of the struggling boy who paid with his life for his early nobility, leaving behind his bicycle and an unquenchable sorrow in the hearts of everyone.
