تواصل فرق الإنقاذ الإندونيسية عمليات البحث في بحر مادورا وسط سباق مع الزمن للعثور على 28 شخصًا ما زالوا في عداد المفقودين بعد الحريق الهائل الذي اجتاح عبّارة الركاب (موتيارا سنتوسا) أثناء رحلتها من سورابايا إلى ماكاسار.
وقد أسفر الحادث حتى الآن عن وفاة خمسة أشخاص، فيما تمكنت فرق الإنقاذ من انتشال 238 ناجيًا من بين 271 راكبًا كانوا على متن السفينة.
وتُظهر المشاهد التي بثّتها الوكالة الوطنية للبحث والإنقاذ أعمدة الدخان الكثيف تتصاعد من جسم السفينة المائل، بينما كانت سفن الإنقاذ تحاول الاقتراب بحذر بسبب وجود مواد قابلة للاشتعال على متن العبارة. وأكدت السلطات أن سبب الحريق لا يزال مجهولًا، وأن التحقيقات جارية لتحديد ملابساته.
وقال مدير الشؤون البحرية والجوية في شرطة جاوة الشرقية، أرمان أسمره شريف الدين: إن عمليات البحث ستستمر لمدة سبعة أيام قابلة للتمديد إلى 14 يومًا إذا لزم الأمر، في ظل مخاوف من ارتفاع عدد الضحايا.
وتُعد المنطقة البحرية المحيطة بجزيرة مادورا من أكثر الممرات ازدحامًا في الأرخبيل الإندونيسي الذي يضم نحو 17 ألف جزيرة، حيث يعتمد السكان بشكل كبير على العبّارات كوسيلة نقل رئيسية، رغم تكرار الحوادث الناجمة عن ضعف معايير السلامة في بعض الرحلات.
وتأتي هذه الكارثة البحرية لتعيد تسليط الضوء على التحديات المزمنة التي تواجه قطاع النقل البحري في البلاد، وسط دعوات لتعزيز إجراءات التفتيش والسلامة على السفن العاملة بين الجزر.
The Indonesian rescue teams continue their search operations in the Madura Sea in a race against time to find 28 people who are still missing after the massive fire that swept through the passenger ferry (Mutiara Sentosa) during its journey from Surabaya to Makassar.
So far, the incident has resulted in the deaths of five people, while rescue teams have managed to retrieve 238 survivors from among the 271 passengers who were on board the ship.
The footage broadcast by the National Search and Rescue Agency shows thick columns of smoke rising from the tilted hull of the ship, while rescue vessels attempted to approach cautiously due to the presence of flammable materials on board the ferry. Authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances.
The Director of Marine and Air Affairs at the East Java Police, Arman Asmareh Sharifuddin, stated that the search operations will continue for seven days, extendable to 14 days if necessary, amid concerns about a rising death toll.
The maritime area surrounding Madura Island is one of the busiest passages in the Indonesian archipelago, which comprises around 17,000 islands, where residents heavily rely on ferries as a primary means of transportation, despite the recurring incidents resulting from poor safety standards on some routes.
This maritime disaster brings to light the chronic challenges facing the maritime transport sector in the country, amid calls to strengthen inspection and safety measures on vessels operating between the islands.
