The Hague, Netherlands: An explosion at the Port of Rotterdam on Thursday killed at least one person and injured several others, according to Dutch authorities.

Police said the blast occurred late on Thursday morning at Europe’s largest seaport and confirmed that a crime scene had been established as investigators work to determine the cause of the incident.

Rotterdam emergency services reported a major power outage at the port and said a transformer caught fire under unexplained circumstances.

Electricity was gradually restored to companies operating in the affected industrial area later in the day.

The port is home to a number of major oil and gas companies, and fire crews remained on standby as authorities continued their response and investigation.
