Doha: A Qatari citizen has been killed and an Arab resident injured after their vessel was struck by shrapnel resulting from ongoing military operations in the region, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior confirmed.
In a statement carried by Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ministry said the incident came to light after a marine vessel failed to return as scheduled, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation on Saturday evening.
Search teams later located the vessel in the early hours of Sunday. The Qatari citizen had sustained fatal injuries from shrapnel, while the injured resident was transported to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The ministry expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured individual a speedy recovery. It added that investigations are ongoing, with legal procedures being carried out in accordance with established regulations.
