Beijing: More than 383,000 people have been evacuated across eastern China as Typhoon Dolphin brought heavy rain, flooding risks and widespread transport disruptions, despite weakening after making landfall.

According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, around 167,900 people had been relocated from high-risk areas on land and at sea in Fujian Province by 7 am on Monday. Authorities in Shanghai also evacuated approximately 215,600 residents from vulnerable areas late on Sunday.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across parts of Fujian, including the cities of Ningde and Nanping, with authorities warning that some areas could experience further downpours in the coming days.

The storm has disrupted transportation and tourism services across affected regions.

In Fujian, authorities suspended: 686 passenger transport routes; 658 train services.

Officials also closed 234 tourist attractions and cancelled dozens of cultural and tourism events as a precautionary measure.

In Shanghai, LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort was temporarily closed after the typhoon brought heavy rain to the city. Authorities issued the highest-level rainstorm warning in the district where the resort is located and warned of possible urban flooding.

The National Meteorological Center said Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th typhoon to affect China this year, made landfall twice in Zhejiang Province on Sunday before weakening as it moved inland.

Authorities continue to monitor the storm and maintain emergency response measures as heavy rainfall persists across parts of eastern China.
