An awareness programme on narcotic drugs was organised at the Government Polytechnic College in Kancharapalem under the joint auspices of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) and the Department of Youth Services (SETVIS), Government of Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday. The programme was organised in connection with International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking scheduled on June 26.

Addressing the students, IRS officer Edara Ravi Kiran advised students to remain cautious about the portrayal of substance abuse as normal in the media and about social trends that encourage such habits.

NACIN Assistant Director K.R.S. Shankar explained the various types of narcotic drugs, their methods of distribution, the legal penalties involved, and the available helpline services.

Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Services Department and SETVIS, M. Ramya, principal K. Sujatha were present.
