Hyderabad:Following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s announcement of linking performance during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll with nominated posts and party positions, most aspirants continued to engage in field work in various Assembly constituencies. Even those who had enjoyed two years of positions rushed to volunteer after their term was completed recently, remaining hopeful of extension through a show of performance.

According to party sources, the Congress, which has engaged most cadres on ground to ensure voters fill enumeration forms, will take a call on offering positions after analysing the ground report of performances. The AICC leadership has also sought details of those missing and plans to reward the top 100 with a chance to meet Rahul Gandhi.

“The CM’s directive issued on July 19 to partymen has had an impact. Following his statement, those who were holding chairman’s positions and reluctant to leave the city are now in Assembly constituencies volunteering for SIR works,” a party leader said.

“They were hopeful of getting an extension, but as it got delayed, they got a clear message and rushed to pick tasks at different levels. Some of them were attached with Assembly‑level SIR coordinators. The seriousness can be gauged by the fact that some of them who attended minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s luncheon on Sunday felt that their work was affected.”

On Monday, AICC in‑charge Meenakshi Natarajan, through a virtual meeting, took stock of the situation. Attended by DCC presidents and election coordinators, the meeting focused on progress of SIR activities and finalising the list of 100 BLAs who will get an opportunity to meet Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

The PCC will be announcing the names of 50 corporation chairmen, if everything goes as per the plans of the three‑member committee including TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and MP Vem Narender Reddy, which held a meeting Saturday.

“Those who are seeking posts will be screened and the list will be prepared and forwarded to the in‑charge ministers after getting approved by DCC presidents and contested MLAs or incharges of constituencies. The positions may be filled within a week or ten days,” the leader added.
